What You Can Expect Scuba Diving the First Time

What You Can Expect Scuba Diving the First Time

If you are interested in partaking in Kaanapali scuba diving, your first step is to take a class. In this course you will learn everything you need to be safe while diving into an underwater world. You may not know what to expect when you start, but your instructors will fill in all the gaps. Before taking off into blue water, you’ll first master a number of essential skills.

Step by Step

The first dive that you take will be in shallow water. All or part of the dive area will be so shallow you are just a foot or two below the surface. However, before you ever step into the water, you’ll be instructed on how your gear works and the safe way to dive.

Scuba Regulators

The first time you breathe through a regulator will be a strange experience, as you’re drawing in air while under the water. One of the best tips here is to breathe through the regulator on land at first to get comfortable. Then when you are ready to go under, lower yourself while exhaling. Often this will make you breathe automatically and the process will go smoothly.

Sound Underwater

It may seem as is scuba diving would be a silent affair, but that’s not accurate. The sound of your own breathing will make noise and can be disconcerting at first. However, after some practice, you’ll learn to tune this out. Water is capable of conducting sound quite well which can make the process tricky at first. Everything will seem amplified and you may have trouble determining where sounds are coming from.

Underwater Vision

Kaanapali scuba diving makes vision a bit different, as your mask cuts off peripheral vision. You vision may seen limited at first, but you will get used it fairly quickly. In addition, light is different while under the water. You may find that objects seem closer than they are in reality. After a while, this will become normal. One way to make up for it is by touching the floor or other items to gauge their closeness.
